Each year more than 100,000 people have the opportunity to experience Mevea’s Remotely Operated STS Crane Simulator at Port Experience Centre Portlantis.

A world-class port experience centre, Portlantis, was opened to the public in March this year, at Maasvlakte II in the Netherlands, and it is owned by the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

This interactive experience centre tells the story of both the port of today and the port of the future, using a variety of narrative formats. These include virtual and augmented reality exhibitions, large-scale 3D models, and laboratories where visitors can even conduct chemical and technical experiments.

One of the interactive exhibits at Portlantis is Mevea’s remotely operated STS (Ship-to-Shore) Crane Simulator, where visitors can gain hands-on experience operating an STS crane to move containers. Mevea delivered this simulator in collaboration with its partner, Siemens Nederland N.V.

In the eye-catching building that houses Portlantis, each floor is themed, and the main windows on each floor are oriented toward the part of the port that corresponds to the theme.

The Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and plays a significant role in the Dutch economy. It employs approximately 192,000 people directly and indirectly in the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region, contributing 2.9% to the Netherlands’ GDP.
